Every major college football program builds their recruiting class around a core group of elite prospects, usually 4-6 players. Miami is no different. Mario Cristobal and his staff are relentless and are at it again with 2027 recruiting.

The Canes’ 2027 recruiting efforts are focused on seven elite prospects at this time. These are often referred to as 5-star prospects. An elite class usually carries three to five such prospects.

Let’s take a look who Miami’s pursuing and whereto Canes stand with each.

QB Israel Abrams (committed)

You always start with the most important position on the field, quarterback. The great news is Miami has already landed their man, Israel Abrams, the #2 ranked quarterback in the 2027 class.

WR Nick Lennear (committed)

You have to surround your elite quarterback with elite talent. Again, Miami has already landed the commitment of the #3 wide receiver prospect in the nation, Nick Lennear.

OT Mark Matthews

Under Mario Cristobal and Alex Mirabal, Miami is always among the best on the line of scrimmage. However, the news is not great on the trail this cycle. The #1 offensive tackle prospect in the nation is local star Mark Matthews. Unfortunately, Mark is trending to Texas A&M. But Cristobal and Mirbal are tenacious and won’t give up until pen meets paper.

EDG DJ Jacobs* (UGA commit)

Miami just developed and delivered two first round defensive ends to the NFL in Rueben Bain and Akeem Mesidor. This recruiting cycle, the Canes are focused on bringing the #1 edge rushing prospect, DJ Jacobs, to Coral Gables. Only one problem, DJ is currently committed to Ohio State. Defensive line coach Aaron Taylor is working hard to “flip” him.

DT David Folorunsho

The #3 defensive tackle prospect, David Fplorunsho, is seriously considering Miami. David visited Coral Gables for spring practice and came away with the Canes in his top tier of schools. It will be a battle with the likes of Georgia, Michigan, Notre Dame and Texas Tech for his signature.

LB Kaden Henderson

Miami has a big need at linebacker. Defensive coordinator Corey Hetherman has zeroed in on the #1 linebacker prospects in the nation, Kaden Henderson. The elite prospect has Miami in his top tier of schools along with LSU, Texas A&M, Ohio State and Notre Dame.

OT Oluwasemilore Olubobola

Miami has become OnLine U under Alex Mirabal and Marion Cristobal. The best from around the nation are now looking at Miami for development and a NFL futures. New Jersey native Oluwasemilore Olubobola, the #3 offensive tackle prospect is no exception. Miami is right in the middle of the battle for this very talented prospect.

BOTTOM LINE:

While the Canes’ 2027 class will be smaller this year, Miami is well positioned to again be among the best in the country. Mario is again BIG GAME hunting!

GO CANES!
