ALERT: PG Jordyn Kee has entered the transfer portal.
Miami head coach Jai Lucas led the Canes to the best turnaround season in history in 2025-26, going 26-9 with a return to the NCAA Tournament.
However, Lucas is faced with another major rebuilding challenge this off-season. His three pillars have graduated and five other players have entered the transfer portal. That’s eight (with Jordyn Kee news) of his thirteen players who must be replaced.
Lucas got off to a great start when he signed 5-star power forward Caleb Gaskins from the high school ranks. But Miami’s high school recruiting hit the wall with that signing. Coach Lucas and his staff quickly pivoted to the current transfer portal in search of both quality and depth.
Over the last month, more than a dozen potential targets have emerged. The staff has prioritized guards and big men (centers) in their search.
AT THIS TIME…
If the Canes land the following targets, Miami will again be positioned to compete for the ACC championship and another March Madness appearance.
Here we go!
PG Acaden Lewis (Villanova)
Rising sophomore point guard Academe Lewis is one of the most talented guards in the country with the ball in his hands. At 6’-1”/180, he brings outstanding play making ability and the potential to deliver solid shot-making production. Defensively, Lewis has the potential to be a good playmaker and rebounder but must develop that part of his game. Miami will battle Georgia, Duke, and Kentucky for his signature.
C Somto Cyril (Georgia)
Rising junior Somto Cyril was one of the best players in the SEC last season. At 6’-11”/260, he brings both size and physicality to the front court. In 2025-26, Somto averaged 9.6 PPG, 5.1 RPG, and 2.2 BPG. He’s an outstanding shooter down low (73.9%). It appears it will be a battle between Arkansas and Miami. Of note, he played Miami assistant coach Erik Pastrana while at Georgia.
CG Juke Harris (Wake Forest)
Rising junior Juke Harris brings excellent shot-making production and size (6’-7”/200) at shooting guard. Last season, he averaged 21.4 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game at Wake Forest. Harris was the Most Improved Player in the ACC last season. Miami will battle he likes of Indiana, NC State and Louisville.
Filling Out The Roster…
The rest of the roster vacancies could come from the following prospects/transfers.
SG Jalil Bethea (Alabama)
A name from the past. Jalil Bethea signed with Miami out of high school but suffered an injury-plague freshman season and transferred to Alabama. The former 5-star guard could return
SF Kevin Thomas (NC State)
Kevin Thomas signed with LSU but the coaching change has prompted him to opt out of his commitment to the Tigers. Could the former 4-star and Fort Lauderdale native return home to play for the Canes?
C Eric Dibami (FIU)
Miami wouldn’t have to go far to bolster their front court with former FIU center Eric Dibami. At 6’-10”/240, Dibami averted Last season, he averaged 10.9.4 points, 7.9 rebounds and 1.93 blocks per game for the Panthers. Dibami could give Miami a big man depth for 2026-27 and for the future.
SG Quincy Wadley (2026 uncommitted)
Miami signed only one recruit in this year’s high school class. However, there is a prospect still on the market. Sources say scoring guard Quincy Wadley (Chandler, AZ - Compass Prep) is being considered by the Canes. At 6’-4”/185, Wadley is rated 98, ranked the #6 SG and #45 overall prospect in the 2026 recruiting class, according to the 247Sports Composite. Given Miami’s need for young talent for the future. Wadley may fit the bill. BYU and Cal are his perceived leaders.
PG Alex Wilkens (Furman) NEW ADD!
With the news of Knee's departure, Miami is reported to be interested in former Furman point guard Alex Wilkens. At 6’-5”/175, Wilkens is a rising sophomore. As a freshman last season, he played in 18 games, averaging 31.3 min. per game, 17.7 PPG, 4.9 APG, and 1.8 RPG. Wilkins is a 4-star prospect, rated 94, ranked the #7 combo guard in the portal and the #39 overall prospect according to 247Sports.
BOTTOM LINE:
The next few weeks will give us an idea about how competitive the Canes next season.
GO CANES!
