OnTheTrail… a six-pack?

Miami is burning up the recruiting trail in 2027.

The Canes’ class stand at 21 verbal commitments and ranks as the #3 recruiting class in the nation, according to the 247Sports Composite.

Miami’s class is expected to be smaller than the 2026 class (31). From all reports, it’s projected to be 22-24 recruits.

Going into the fall, it appears Mario Cristobal and his staff are focusing on six .remaining targets to finish out one of the highest ranked classes in Miami history. All six targets will require a “flip.”

"Cast-iron edge defender with the size, speed and strength to wreak havoc on Saturdays and then Sundays. Constantly destroys blocks with violent hands and a powerful lower half. Can shoot right past protection with his quick-twitch athleticism and impressive snap anticipation. Balanced through contact and has an excellent understanding of how to create leverage with his feet. Fills holes on the inside with a flat back and will release for tackles near his gap. Closes in pursuit with elite burst and has the lateral movement skills to track running backs across the field. Needs to keep tinkering with pass-rush technique, but effort and energy is already there, which is extremely encouraging. Could fit into an odd or even front at the next level and should offer no shortage of alignment possibilities as he can attack from both a two and three-point stance. Might not have the longest of arms, but has plenty of room to add mass to a budding 6-foot-5 frame. Projects as a future difference-maker for a College Football Playoff contender that can set the edge and get after the quarterback."

SUMMARY: Elite pass rushing prospect. Multi-sport athlete (football, basketball). Brings size potential, power and a ton of physicality. In 2025, In 2024, 112 tackles (35 TFLs) and 12 sack. Projects as a  multi-year high-major starter with NFL upside down the road. Committed but still open.

"A mix between a tank and a jackrabbit, which is an extremely difficult combination to tackle. First three touches of junior season speak to the caliber of player: a 98-yard kickoff return touchdown, a 56-yard touchdown run and a 80-yard touchdown run. Owns true workhorse capabilities with his low-to-the-ground run style. Quick out the gate and as he builds momentum. Constantly finds green grass with his vision. Stacks cuts in traffic or the open field. Bounces off tacklers and powers through gaps. Frequently thrashes forward and finishes runs. Skilled as a route runner with the hands to make tough catches. Enters senior year with close to 4,000 career rushing yards. Most of that came against stiff WPIAL competition and stacked boxes. Must avoid setbacks and remain healthy, but should be viewed as a hard-nosed running back with an explosive lower half that can consistently move the chains for a College Football Playoff contender.”

"Explosive interior defender with the get-off, quickness and hands to be a difference-maker up front. Owns a squatty and compact build, but has a longer wingspan and could eventually play at 300 pounds. Fires hips through contact. Slips blocks with a brawler mentality. Agile enough to quickly plant and redirect. Empties the tank while in chase mode. Got looks up and down the line as a junior while also doubling as a blocking back on offense and should offer the same alignment possibilities in college as he can shade up or over a guard. Will need to keep improving his play-strength and mastering his craft, but projects as a potential impact player for a College Football Playoff hopeful with his range and energy."

SUMMARY: Elite interior defensive lineman with a very high upside. Will be a tough pull from the Irish in the mid-west.

Modern slot tight end that should command targets in any offense with his win rate. Turns jump balls into easy rebounds with his above-the-rim athleticism, but is far from a one-tricky pony as he can stress the seam with his speed and produce chunks of YAC with his agility. Not the tallest of targets, but owns a monster catch radius. Powers through contact and can easily release from a jam. Understands body positioning and how to snap open. Heats up after the catch and will run through arm tackles. Limited experience to date as an in-line blocker, but combative tendencies suggest that he will eventually never need to leave the field, especially as he adds weight. Projects as a matchup weapon for a College Football Playoff hopeful that’s likely going to find the most success in a motion-heavy system.

SUMMARY: Elite TE prospect with big potential as a passing threat.

Measured just over 6-foot-2, 235 pounds in advance of senior season. More notably, clocked back-to-back 4.44-second efforts in the 40-yard dash. Can keep runs wide with his tempo and beat defenders to the perimeter. Fluid enough in the midline to swiftly change course once on the move. Will drive through contact with impressive core power and extend runs. Might not be the most sudden mover in tight quarters, but is a threat to go the distance anytime he clears the first wave of tacklers. Likely to add three-down value once he evolves as a pass protector. Projects as a potential impact player on Saturdays with a size/speed combo that will be very attractive to NFL scouts.

SUMMARY: Multi-sport athlete. Brings elite size and speed combination. Versatile, could play running back or linebacker. In 2025, rushed  for 1,341 yards (10.6 YPC) and 20 TD. Also caught 3 passes for 45 yards. In 2024: 911 yards rushing, 14 TDs (10.4 YPC); 4 pass receptions, 27 yards, 1 TD.

Fires out of his stance and initiates contact. Moves with excellent balance and posture. Extends the arc in pass sets with an elite kick slide. Will unlock the hips on angle/move blocks and get his head around. Darts into space when asked to climb and looks to finish. Must continue to improve technique and work on the hand placement, but is a natural knee-bender with rare big-man twitch that’s very young for the grade. Likely to face an initial adjustment period, but projects as a multi-year starter for a College Football Playoff contender with early-round of the NFL Draft upside.”

SUMMARY:  Elite OT in 2027 class. Multi-sport athlete (basketball) | Brings size, mobility and playing twitch. Room to add mass. Young and very raw, but has demonstrated flashes of elite skills. Should be considered a developmental prospect with tremendous upside. Could be someone special down the road.

BOTTOM LINE:

Each of these final targets are legitimately possible. However, they are all “flips”, which will be a monumental challenge. While not likely coach Cristobal lands all, never count him out.
