Miami used a rare method to victory on Saturday night at Light Field.
A walk-off walk!
Miami (31-12, 11-9 ACC) jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the first inning on Alex Sosa’s three-run home run, his 11th of the season. California scored a pair of runs in the fifth to tie the game at 3-3.
With the game tied with the bases loaded in the ninth inning, Miami’s Max Gavin drew a walk that drove in the winning run in a 4-3 victory over California.
Miami starter Lazaro Collera hurled 5 2/3 innings, giving up three runs while allowing six hits while striking out four and walking two. Reliever Lyndon Glidewell (3-0) pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings fo the victory. With the bases loaded in the eight inning, Glidewell stuck out Ethan Kodama to end the threat.
The Miami win evened the three-game series. The “rubber game” for the series finale will be played on Sunday. The first pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. ET with coverage on ACCNX and WVUM.
