ACC scrambles to recover from scheduling disaster

Going into this past week, the ACC had Miami scheduled to play FOUR games on Friday in 2026.

Thanks ACC!

Miami was absolutely livid. Such scheduling stacked the odds against the Canes making another run to the college playoffs. With those Friday games, Miami was facing shorter weeks to prepare for the next opponent, not to mention the impact on team health and home attendance. Just another example of the ACC shooting itself in the foot. If Miami was inclined to leave the ACC in the future, this scheduling boondoggle moves the needle toward an exit in 2030.

In an effort to mitigate the self-inflicted damage, the ACC made a scheduling change on Friday. The conference announced the VT vs Miami game, scheduled for Friday November 20th, is moved to Saturday, November 21st.

While this move makes sense, Miami still faces three more Friday games to navigate in 2026. Perhaps an additional games can be moved, but the damage to the conference’s chances of keeping one of their flagship programs has been done.

The ACC continues to not think moves through before inflicting damage to member programs.

GO CANES!
