Canes explode to defeat Louisville, 13-8

Miami’s bats came alive in the fifth inning, plating nine runs on their way to defeating Louisville, 13-8, on Thursday night at Mark Light Field.


The Canes used “small ball” against the Hokies, pounding out 14 hits including 12 singles and eight walks for the night.


Miami (34-14, 14-11 ACC) exploded in the fifth inning with nine runs.


Derek Williams drove in four runs, Jake Ogden had four hits and knocked in two runs and Brylan West also drove in two runs for the Canes. Gabriel Milano, starting in place of injured Daniel Cuvet, went 3 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored.


On the mound, Miami starter Rob Evans (9-3) turned in a strong start, going 6 innings, giving up four runs (two earned) on five hits while striking out eight Cardinals and walking only one.


The Canes and Cardinals return to action on Friday night for the second game of the important series. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. ET with coverage on ACCNX and WVUM 90.5 FM.
