Canes’ pitching wins the day…and series

Miami defeated California, 4-1, on Sunday at Light Field. The Canes used the sold pitching of starter AJ Ciscar and closer Lyndon Glidewell to secure their sixth straight weekend series.

Ciscar (4-3) threw 7 /2/3 innings, giving up one run, on X hits while striking out seven Golden Bears and walking none. Glidewell fished off Cal with 3 strike outs over the last 1 1/3 innings and his second save of the season.

At the plate, Miami (32-12, 12-9 ACC) collected nine hits with Alexa Sosa and Gabriel Milano driving in two runs each. Milano sparked the scoring with an infield hit in the second. Sosa sealed the game ninth fifth with a two-run single to extend Miami’s lead to 3-0. California attempted a rally in the sixth inning, scoring a run to close the gap to 3-1. But Miami secured the game with another run in the bottom of the inning on a base hit by Milano.

Miami goes on the road for a three-game series against NC State on Friday. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. ET with coverage on ACCNX.
