Miami head coach Mario Cristobal meets challenges head on. Last week, the preseason coaches poll came out, ranking the Canes the #10 overall team in the country.
On The Joe Rose Show this Monday, coach Cristobal was asked about that ranking.
"We are being recognized for the progress of our program, but for us it means we still have a long way to go," Cristobal said. “We have been busting our asses to get Miami to where it needs to be and the progress is not going to stop.”
"It has been a ton of progress and a ton of hard work. At the end of the day I am a Miami Hurricane and I was pissed off [at how far Miami had fallen since 2004] and I wanted to come home and fix it. The more that we come to the mindset that we owe Miami, because Miami has been pretty damn good to us as Miami Hurricanes and as a city, then the better off we are going to be—and that is happening. We are just getting started. We are in no way, shape, or form content.”
Miami has come a long way in the past four years. While pleased with the program’s progress, he is really pleased with the team’s cultural transition.
"The best thing about this entire team is that they do love to work. They love to compete. Especially in the trenches, where it starts and ends," Cristobal said. "We are starting to see legitimate depth where it is built to last and built to get better and better as the years go on.”
Miami opens the season at Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday, August 31 against 2024 national runner-up Notre Dame.
In our next edition, coach Cristobal talks about the upcoming challenge.
