DEPTH CHART: Left Tackle

The off-season is in the books. It’s now time to prepare for Fall Camp and the 2026 season. Head Coach Mario Cristobal and offensive line coach Alex Mirabal have assembled a roster ready to compete for championships. Miami has done excellent job of talent retention and acquisition this off-season.

The only question is … who will step up to lead our Canes this season?

Our series continues to focus on the potential competition for starting positions and backup roles at each position. Our projections of each depth chart are just that, not the actual depth charts. Every Cane must earn their position on the depth chart. No freebies

OFFENSIVE LEFT TACKLE:

Jackson Cantwell

Freshman | # 79 | 6’-8” / 330

Jackson comes to Miami as a herald 5-star prospect, the #1 overall prospect in the 2026 recruiting class. Coach Mirabal wasted no time in throwing Jackson into the fire. He has that much talent. However, he is a true freshman and at a position that is very difficult to just step in and have success. It’s good that Samson Okunlola will likely be next to him on the line. Can Jackson assimilate quickly to college life and the speed of the game? We’ll find out soon.

Jamal Meriweather

RS - Junior | #71 | 6’-7” / 305

Jamal comes to Miami as a transfer from Georgia. He brings SEC game experience and position versatility at either guard or tackle. We expect him to compete for a starting role at either position.

Jaden Wilkerson

Sophomore | #73 | 6’-6” / 335

Jaden came to Miami as a 3-star prospect and shot up the depth chart during his freshman campaign. He continued his meters rise this spring. He’ already capable to compete for an expanded role in 2026. Is this the season Jaden breaks out?

Demetrius Campbell

RS Freshman | #72 | 6’-6” / 330

Demetrius came to Miami in 2025 as a 3-star prospect. His development is on schedule and he projects as a potential starter down the line. Will Demetrius earn a wider role in 2026?

BOTTOM LINE:

The Canes are replacing their starting left tackle in 2026. On the paper, it appears Miami is really short on game experience at this critical position. However the talent is there in spades. Will the young talent rise to the occasion or will Miami fall back on a more experienced option?
