The off-season is in the books. It’s now time to prepare for Fall Camp and the 2026 season. Head Coach Mario Cristobal and offensive line coach Alex Mirabal have assembled a roster ready to compete for championships. Miami has done excellent job of talent retention and acquisition this off-season. The only question is who will step up to lead our Canes this season.
Our series continues to focus on the potential competition for starting positions and backup roles at each position. Our projections of each depth chart are just that, not the actual depth charts. Every Cane must earn their position on the depth chart. No freebies
Let’s go!
OFFENSIVE RIGHT GUARD:
Max Buchanan
Sophomore | #66 | 6’-4” / 310
Max came out of high school as a three-star prospect but has skyrocketed up Miami depth chart and will compete for a starting role in 2026. He’s got big shoes to fill (Anez Cooper). Is he ready for the challenge?
Jamal Meriweather
RS - Junior | #71 | 6’-7” / 305
Jamal comes to Miami as a transfer from Georgia. He brings SEC game experience and position versatility at either guard or tackle. We expect him to compete for a starting roll. His presence will also guide and push Max in his development.
Juan Minaya
Sophomore | #77 | 6’-5” / 335
Juan came to Miami from New Jersey and is a huge interior lineman who completed his freshman season in 2025. His assimilation into college ball went well and he will compete for an expanded role in 2026.
Canon Pickett
Freshman | #53 | 6’-4” / 325
Canon comes from a long line of Hurricanes, including his brother, current UM defensive end Booker Pickett Jr. and the son of former Hurricanes linebacker, Booker Picket Sr.. He begins his college career and could develop into a starting role down the line at either guard or tackle.
BOTTOM LINE:
Miami doesn’t have a lot of game experience but has very good young talent with high potential. That’s why the pickup of Meriweather was so important this off-season.
GO CANES!
