Joe Echevarria is a trouble maker!

University of Miami president Joe Echevarria is causing big time trouble for the U.S. Congress, the NCAA and the ACC.
In an interview with Yahoo’s Ross Dellenger this week, Echevarria laid the wood. He pronounced that while a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference, Miami was not going to stay in the conference with the math at the current financial numbers.

He also sent a clear message to the U.S. Congress: “You cannot lock us into a conference.” If congress passes the “Protect College Sports Act” as now written, Miami will seriously consider going independent with their major national brand. There’s even a rumor that Miami already has a deal being brokered with a national streaming service.
That’s real pressure from a real wall street power broker.
All the above has stirred media attention around the “independence” angle. But don’t for a moment think president Echevarria is revealing all the cards in his hand. He could also lead the charge for a new power conference within the NCAA or even break away from the NCAA to form a new super athletic association. He has the business experience, contacts and resources to make it happen.
The SEC power brokers have met their match. Echevarria is going to break the “Super 2” stranglehold over college athletics.
Yes, Joe Echevarria is a trouble maker. A very good one at that.
GO CANES!
