Miami lost the first game of a three-game series, 7-6, to #11 Florida State in Tallahassee on Thursday.
Despite a quality start from Miami lefty Rob Evans, the Canes could hold a 6-1 lead down the stretch. Evans fired seven innings, giving up just one run on six hits while striking out seven and walking two. Miami’s bullpen imploded over the last four innings. Six relievers combined to throw 3 2/3 innings and allowed seven hits, six runs, three walks and one hit batter.
Sad.
At the plate, the Canes jumped out to a 6-1 lead. Alonzo Alvarez hit a three-run home run. Alex Sosa and Gabriel Milano each drove in a run while Jake Ogden, Derek Williams each had a pair of hits. The Hurricanes finished with 10 hits, but none after the seventh inning, as five of their six batters in extra innings struck out.
On Friday, the teams will meet again for the second game of the series. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. ET with coverage on ACCNX.
GO CANES!
