Miami rallied in the ninth inning but still fell to Louisville, 16-9, after giving up nine runs in the 11th inning at Mark Light Field on Friday night.

Miami (34-15, 14-12 ACC) tied the game in the ninth inning on a base hit by Alonzo Alvarez. Unfortunately, Miami’s bullpen imploded in the 11th inning as the Cardinals sent 14 batters to the plate, scoring nine runs to seal the game.

Alex Sosa led the Canes’ attack with three hits, including a home run and drove in three runs and Vance Sheahan knocked in two runs for Miami. The Canes banged out 12 hits and got multi-hits from  Sosa, Alvarez, Sheahan and Jake Ogden.

Miami starter Lazaro Collera went six innings, giving up five runs (four earned), allowing five hits and five runs. Collera struck out five and walked one.

The teams will play the “rubber game” on Saturday to determine the series winner. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m. with coverage on ACCNX and WVUM-95 FM.
