Our #12 Miami Hurricanes took care of business on a cold Saturday afternoon in Pittsburgh, beating the #22 Pitt Panthers, 38 - 7 at Acrisure Stadium.
They now await the CFP selection committee’s decision on the college football playoff berths. The Canes finished their regular season 10-2, 6-2 ACC.
The CFP selection committee is now in a nightmare position. They must rank Miami over Notre Dame after a head-to-head comparison. The Canes have done everything possible to prove they are one of the best teams in the nation. Th victory was Miami's fourth win this season against a ranked team, including Notre Dame.
Miami was in control for almost the entire game and ran away from the Panthers in another dominating victory over ranked #22 Pittsburgh.
The Canes dominated in almost all the major game metric (first downs total yards, yards passing, yards rushing and time of possession.) The Panthers were limited limited to only 30 yards on the ground and just 199 yards passing by freshman QB sensation Mason Heintschel, a key factor going into the game.
Miami’s offense totaled 416 yards to 229 yards for the Panthers. Quarterback Carson Beck threw for 267 yards, completing 23 of 329 passes (79.3.%) for 3 touchdowns and one interception. Wide Receiver Malachi Toney led Miami receivers with 126 yards on 13 receptions (9.7 YPC). Toney also ran for 30 yards and completed a 9-yard pass for 15 touchdown.
Miami’s defense kept Panther quarterback Mason Heintschel in check, limiting him to 199 yards passing and only 24 yards rushing. Miami defense was led by edge Rueben Bain with 5 tackles, 1.5 sacks and 1.5 TFL. LB Wesley Bissainte chipped in 6 tackles. Safety Zachariah Poyser added 5 tackles and 1 TFL. DT Justin Scott also contributed 5 tackles and 1 TFL.
Miami now awaits the CFP selection committee’s decision on playoff berths.
