Miami powers past BC, 74-68

Miami controlled the paint in beating Boston College, 74-68, on the road on Saturday.

The Canes used their power in the paint to gain a 44-30 point advantage over the Eagles. Miami (18-5, 7-3 ACC) was led by senior power forward Malik Reneau and freshman small forward Shelton Henderson. Reneau scored a team high 23 points and Henderson pumped in 19 points. It was Reneau’s fourth consecutive 20-point game on 9-of-20 shooting.

"That's how we're built," said head coach Jai Lucas. "We have a formula with points in the paint. We're big, we're physical so we have to try to fight for our identity every game. I thought initially to start we did a really good job and us being down some people and having some lower numbers we kind of died out and ran out of gas so we made subs to kind of adjust our team. We found it again in the second half and then Boston College did a really good job of adjusting and making a run."

Senior point guard Tru Donaldson came up big down the stretch, chipping in 14 points, eight rebounds and seven assists, including a tie-breaking 3-pointer with 3 1/2 minutes remaining for the Canes. Freshman guard Dante Allen jammed a dunk for a 68-63 advantage with two minutes remaining following a steal and pass by Donaldson.

Miami shot 51.9 percent (28 of 54) from the floor while holding the Eagles to 40.0-percent (26 of 65) shooting.

"It's always good to win on the road," said head coach Jai Lucas. 

Miami returns home next Tuesday to take on #14 North Carolina. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. ET with coverage provided on ESPN.
