With all the reaction to the “Protect College Athletics” bill before the U.S. Congress, rumors began to go viral this week. One of these rumors involve Miami and Florida State
A vote on the bill has been delayed until September due to provisions to limit conference size to 19 schools and a 5-year “independent” status for schools moving to another conference.
Craig Shemon, of Locked On Big Ten, is reporting that Miami and Florida State could be moving to the Big Ten Conference after the 2026 season.
The bill is expected to be voted on in September and be signed into law by President Trump in October. An amendment has been proposed by Senator Ashley Moody (R- Florida) that would grant schools 180 days to withdraw from their current conference without the 5-year “independence” penalty.
Should all this transpire, Miami and FSU would become the 19th and 20th member schools of the Big Ten Conference.
A number of other ACC schools reportedly would consider voting to dissolve the conference and also leave at that time.
