Our #10 Miami Hurricanes upset #7 Texas A&M. 10-3, on the road at Kyle Field in College Station, Texas on Saturday.
As is our custom, the CaneReports awards “game balls” after each Miami victory.
Yesterday’s upset victory was one of the greatest in Miami football history. So, we have a bag full of awards to hand out today. Let’s get started!
The Team…
The entire team was focus and one as a team. Our first game ball goes to every player, coach and staff member. Thank you for the memory.
The Defensive Line…
Our entire defensive line was ballin on Saturday. Led by Rueben Bain & Akeem Mesidor, they again shut down the Aggie running attack, including the elusive Marcel Reed. With David Blay and Armondo Blount plugging up the middle while Messier and Bain bottled up Reed. They made the Aggies a one dimensional offense. And they paid for it. Seven sacks, nine tackles for loss and one blocked field goal attempt.
DB Keionte Scott…
Coming off injury, Miami's guided missile led the team in tackles (10), three tackles for loss, two sacks, three quarterback pressures and a forced fumble. Keionte was all over the field, allowing only 38 passing yards to boot.
OG Anez Cooper…
Anez was a virtual road grader, earning the highest run blocking grade (74.3) on the line. He was instrumental in Miami’s running success late in the game when it matter most.
LB Wesley Bissainthe…
In perhaps his best game as a Cane, Wesley finished with seven tackles and a 76.8 run defense grade. In coverage, he did not allow catch.
Safety Bryce Fitzgerald
True freshman safety Bryce Fitzgerald saved the game with his end zone interception, his second of the game, with 24 seconds on the clock. For that he goes into the history book and earns a game ball.
RB Mark Fletcher…
The heart and soul of this team, Mark Fletcher put his team on his back down the stretch and drove our running game down the field in the closing minutes. For the day, Mark rushed for career high 172 yards on 17 carries (10.1 YPC). Just as impressive was his leadership on the side, keeping his teammates up and pumped.
BOTTOM LINE:
This game will go down as one of the best in Miami Hurricane history. Now on to the Cotton Bowl to take on the “mighty” Buckeyes of Ohio State.
Well deserved, gentlemen!
GO CANES!
