In the summer of 2024, the national media couldn’t stop singing the praises of quarterback Carson Beck. He was going to lead Georgia to a national championship. He was going to be a first team All American. He was going to push for the Heisman Award. He was going to be a first round NFL draft.

Then came the season. Georgia’s offensive line was porous. The Bulldogs’ running game was non-existent. Their receivers led the country in dropped passes. Finally, Beck, trying to put the Bulldogs on his back, hurt his elbow in the SEC championship game. Georgia’s season was a huge disappointment for their fan base and for Greg Sankey’s conference.
Who took the fall for Georgia’s failed expectations?
Carson Beck.
The NFL Draft…
Everyone expected Beck to declare for the NFL Draft. After all, he was now persona non Grata in Athens. He was became a virtual bum in Georgia.

Fast forward to the off-season. Beck surprised everyone by not going into the NFL Draft. Instead, he chose to go into the transfer portal, eventually signing with Miami. He needed to heal physically, mentally and restore his draft value.
The “Spin Machine”…
That’s when the SEC “spin machine” kicked into action. They could afford to have Beck comeback in the lowly ACC and put the SEC pundits to shame for throwing him under the bus. They began throwing more mud on Beck’s effort to regain his status as an elite quarterback.
Back to health…
Surgery quickly followed his signing and a carefully planned rehabilitation process played out quietly in Coral Gables. Today, Beck’s arm is back to full strength and he is lighting it up on Greentree at fall camp.

Mud Slinging…
But that hasn’t stopped the “SEC/ESPN spin doctors” in their campaign to discredit Beck as a legitimate elite quarterback.
“Beck’s arm is done! He’s fragile.”
“Beck’s head isn’t in the game any longer! He’s just a South Beach playboy!”
“Beck makes bad game decisions!”
"Beck is not a team player!"
It goes on and on.
The SEC spin machine is an organized effort to plant negative story lines that cast doubts about Beck as a quarterback and person. And the national media, and specifically ESPN, are complicit in this “spin campaign.” ESPN must promote their flagship conference and throw shade on any competing conference, school or player that gets in the way.
Beck is hardly mentioned on 2025 national watch lists. Forget that Beck went 24-3 as the starting quarterback for the Georgia Bulldogs in the tough SEC over the past three years. Forget that he led those same Bulldogs to two national championships. Forget that Beck is considered one of the best quarterbacks at reading elite college defenses.
The SEC/ESPN “spin doctors" want Carson Beck to fail this fall.
Time will tell if they get their wish.
GO CANES!
