Every season is a new season in college football since the emergence of NIL and the transfer portal. This series will break down, by position, the talent and potential of each position group.
Today, we examine Miami’s DEFENSIVE TACKLE room.
OVERVIEW:
Miami had a solid interior on the defensive line in 2025. Coach Damion Lewis is projected to have another solid group of defensive tackles in 2026, perhaps even better the last season.
In 2026, coach Lewis must replace one starter in David Blay. But the cupboard is far from empty.
Miami prefers to carry between 8–10 defensive tackles on the roster.
RETURNING LETTERMEN
Miami returns four (4) defensive tackles, Ahmad Moten Sr., Mykah Newton, Daylen Russell and Justin Scott from the 2025 squad.
INCOMING TRANSFERS:
Miami signed two transfer DEFENSIVE TACKLES, Keona Davis (Nebraska) and Jarquez Carter (Ohio State). Both bring game experience and solid skills.
INCOMING FRESHMEN:
Miami welcomes true freshmen Keshawn Stancil and Fred Sainteus to Greentree.
The ROOM: (alphabetical order)
Keona Davis
Jarquez Carter
Ahmad Moten Sr.
Mykah Newton
Daylen Russell
Fred Sainteus
Justin Scott
Keshawn Stancil
TOP RECRUITING TARGETS:
The coaching staff is always looking to the future, stashing blue chip talent. With only two exhausting their eligibility after 2026, look for Miami to take 1-3 defensive tackles in their 2027 class.
The Canes can be selective with their DT recruiting this cycle. At this time, Miami has prioritized David Folorunsho, Brayden Parks and Jalen Brewster. Brewster is the #1 overall prospect in the nation but will need to be flipped from Ohio State.
BOTTOM LINE:
Miami is bringing back a deep, and talented group of defensive tackles in 2026. The staff will be very selective this cycle but always looking to continue to stack elite talent for the future.
Check back often for the latest update on the Canes’ progress on the recruiting trail.
GO CANES!
