Every season is a new season in college football since the emergence of NIL and the transfer portal. This series will break down, by position, the talent and potential of each position group.

Today, we examine Miami’s interior offensive line (IOL) room.

Overview:

Miami had a very strong interior offensive line rooms in in 2025. They have to replaced two NFL bound linemen in Anez Cooper (6th round, New York Jets), James Brockermeyer (Atlanta Falcons - UDF). In addition, LG Matthew McCoy will shift to right tackle in 2026. This means the Canes must replaced their entire interior line in 2026.

Miami prefers to carry between 10-12 interior linemen on the roster.

Returning Lettermen:

Miami returns four offensive tackles, Max Buchanan, Juan Minaya, Samson Okunlola, Deryc Plazz and Ryan Rodriguez from the 2025 squad. McCoy has been shifted to right tackle and is the projected starter at this time.

Incoming Transfers:

Miami signed one transfer IOL this cycle, Johnathan Cline (East Tenn. State). Transfer Jamal Meriweather (Georgia) can play either guard or tackle.

Incoming Freshmen:

Miami welcomes freshmen IOL Joel Ervin, Canon Pickett, Rhys Woodrow and JJ Sparks.

Top Recruiting Targets:

The coaching staff is always looking to the future, stashing blue chip talent. Miami is looking to take 1-2 interior linemen in their 2027 class. The Canes can be selective with their IOL recruiting this. At this time, the staff has prioritized 4-star OL Sean Tatum (committed) and 4-star IOL Jatori Williams.

BOTTOM LINE:

Miami is bringing back a deep, and talented interior line in 2026. The staff will be very selective this cycle but always looking to continue to stack elite talent for the future.

Check back often for the latest update on the Canes’ progress on the recruiting trail.

GO CANES!
