Every season is a new season in college football since the emergence of NIL and the transfer portal. This series will break down, by position, the talent and potential of each position group. Today, we examine Miami's offensive tackle room.
Overview:
Miami had one of the strongest offensive tackle rooms in the country in 2025. They have to replaced two NFL bound tackles in Francis Mauigoa (#10 - NY Giants) and Markel Bell (#68 - Phi Eagles). Miami prefers to carry between 6-8 offensive tackles on the roster.
Returning Lettermen:
Miami returns four offensive tackles, Demetrius Campbell, Matthew McCoy, Juan Minaya and Jaden Wilkerson from the 2025 squad. McCoy has been shifted to right tackle and is the projected starter at this time.
Incoming Transfers:
Miami signed one transfer tackle this cycle, Jamal Meriweather (Georgia). Meriweather can play either guard or tackle.
Incoming Freshmen:
Miami welcomes freshmen offensive tackles Jackson Cantwell and Ben Congdon. Both freshmen have very high ceilings and Cantwell is already competing for the starting left tackle position.
Top Recruiting Targets:
The coaching staff is always looking to the future, stashing blue chip talent. Miami is looking to take 1-2 offensive tackles in their 2027 class. The Canes can be selective with their offensive tackle recruiting in 2027. At this time, the staff has prioritized 5-star Mark Matthews, 4-star Oluwasemilore Olubobola, 4-star Joshua Sam-Epelle and 3-star Tyler Ford (committed).
BOTTOM LINE:
Miami is looking to continue to stack elite offensive tackles in 2027. The key will be Mark Matthews. Recent reports indicate Miami still has some wood chopping do do here. A decision is expected soon. Can the best offensive line coaches again land elite talent here? If so, the Canes will continue to be an offensive power for years to come.
GO CANES!
