October 22, 2026 - Miami welcomed Burleson (Texas) Centennial linebacker Aston Whiteside to the 2027 recruiting class on Wednesday. Aston flipped his commitment from Texas A&M to Miami.

At 6’-2”/205, Aston is rated 89, ranked the #27 linebacker and #347 overall prospect in the 2027 recruiting class, according to the 247Sports Composite.

Aston committed to Texas A&M in June. Miami continued to pursue him. He visited Miami last weekend to attend the Canes’ annual rivalry game against Florida States. Coming off that visit Aston made the decision to flies commitment to Miami.

Aston is considered a highly underrated linebacker and his senior season is the reason. To date, he has 20 solo tackles on his ledger. As a sophomore in 2024, Aston posted 104 tackles, 3 TFL, 2 INTs, 1 FF, and 2 FR. In 2025, He followed it up with 46 tackles, 3 TFL, 1 FF, and 1 FG block in only 9 games.

Aston has primarily played safety in high school but is projected at linebacker at the next level. Miami is getting an underrated prospect with high upside.

This week, Gabe Brooks, 247Sports Scouting Analyst, published this evaluation of Aston.

“Primarily aligned at safety as a senior, but spins down to LB and occasionally edge. Volume tackler with broad pursuit range. Valuable special teams contributor, mostly in coverage, but also with an 83-yard punt return TD. High-level combine tester who can more consistently unlock that verified athleticism in pads. Potential to fill a versatile personnel role at the P4 level thanks to combination of athleticism and frame specs.”

Miami’s 2027 recruiting class now stands at 20 verbal commitments, ranked #4 in the nation.

Welcome to the U, Aston! Welcome to the family!

GO CANES!
