“What IF… breakaway?” - part two

For years, there have been questions and rumors about the future viability of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC).
The ACC has been battling both a financial revenue gap and internal conflicts for years.
What are the options?
Our GOAL:
A very powerful conference in both football and basketball that brings competitive success, financial stability to member schools and the game back to our fans.
In part one of our series, we examined a very real option for the many of the ACC schools. Break away and form a new conference made up of only twelve schools. It would take a majority of the current eighteen ACC schools to dissolve the conference.
Our goal is to form a realistic power conference of competitive programs in football and basketball, located in top television markets in the eastern half of the United States.
So, WHAT IF… it does happen?
Along with a friend (a Noles fans!), we are conducting a fantasy selection process for a new conference. Twelve schools.
So far, we have selected Florida State, Miami, Clemson and Notre Dame. You could say these picks established our football flagships.
Our METHODOLOGY:
We are alternating picks, something like a draft. Our only restrictions are our picks must be realistic and located in eastern United States.
NEXT UP: AZ Nole picks school #5
With the fifth selection pick, AZ Nole selects NORTH CAROLINA.
“The Tar Heels are one of the biggest overall college brands in the country, not just in football. Even if your conference is football-first, UNC adds enormous value because of basketball and national interest. The Heels give you strong presence in the Carolinas and draws viewers beyond the region. Conferences care more about institutional profile than fans sometimes realize.Finally, North Carolina is an increasingly important recruiting state”.
TexCane is up next.
With the sixth pick, TexCane selects DUKE.
“The Blue Devils bring the second big national basketball brand. Duke is a storied basketball program with an upward trajectory for the football program. Duke would have a major presence in the Research Triangle, Greensboro-High Point-Winston Salem and Charlotte TV markets. It’s really a no-brainer pick. And it keeps both the SEC and BigTen out of this key strategic market.”

With the selection of UNC and Duke, our conference has now established the basketball flagships to pair with a very strong and powerful football offering. These six schools bring recognizable football and basketball brands and will draw big national audiences every week of the season.
