Miami dropped the first game of a three-game series to California, 9-2, on Friday night at Mark Light Field.

In the process, Miami starter Rob Evans was forced to exit with an ankle injury after fielding a ground ball in the third inning. He was helped off the field. Early report indicated nothing was broken. It’s unclear how long Evans will be out.

Miami (30-12, 10-9 ACC) were also without third baseman Daniel Cuvet after getting his wisdom teeth removed. He is not expected to play in this series.

The Canes were held tots runs on only five hits. The bottom of the order went 0 for 20 with eight strikeouts. Derek Williams and Jake Ogden provided the only punch for Miami. Williams drove in both runs and Ogden contributed three hits.

Meanwhile, the Bears (22-18, 7-12) clubbed five home runs.

Cal and Miami continue their series on Saturday. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. ET with coverage on ACCNX and WVUM 90.5 FM.

GO CANES!
