For all intents and purposes, Miami (6-2, 2-2 ACC) will not play for the ACC Championship or be invited to the College Football Playoffs this season after losing to SMU, 26-20, in overtime on Saturday.

Miami outplayed SMU in ALMOST every facet of the game, except for two…PENALTIES and TURNOVERS.

The Canes committed twelve (12) penalties for 96 yards and gave up two interceptions. That was enough to lose the game.

On offense, Miami out gained SMU in total yards, 433 to 388. The Canes had 23 first downs to 20 for the Mustangs. Miami went 7-16 on third down conversations, compared to 3-13 for SMU. The Canes held a huge advantage in time of possession, 37:42 to 22:18.

On defense, Miami limited SMU’s running game to only 23 yards (0.9 yards per carry) but gave up 365 yards in the air..

Miami returns next Saturday when they host Syracuse at Hard Rock Stadium. Kick off is set for 3:30 p.m. ET, with coverage on ESPN.

GO CANES!
