Canes win opener, 86-69!

Miami began the Jai Lucas era of Miami basketball with an 86-69 win over Jacksonville on Monday night at Watsco Center.

The entire starting five scored in double digits, with senior forward Malik Reneau leading the way for the Canes with 20 points. Senior center Ernest Udeh posted a double-double with scored 14 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. True freshman Shelton Henderson made his college debut with 15 points, while Tru Washington added 12 points and Tre Donaldson chipped in 11 points.
Miami (1-0) shot 55.1 percent (27 of 49) from the floor, but made just 3 of 14 from three-point range. Jacksonville (0-1) shot 46.6 percent (27 of 58) from the floor.
The Canes got off to a slow start but after shaking off the jitters that come with a new lineup, came back to take a 41-35 lead into halftime.
The second half was a different story. Miami turned on the jets, out scoring the Dolphins 45-34 to secure the win.
Miami will next host Bethune-Cookman on Thursday evening. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. ET with coverage on ACCNX.
