Canes hit the road, defeat Stanford, 6-3

Miami (28-10, 9-7 ACC) went on the road on Friday night and used brilliant pitching and timely hitting to defeat Stanford, 6-3, to begin a three-game series.

Miami starter Rob Evans (8-1) pitched his best game of the season, going 7 2/3 innings, giving up two runs on three hits while striking out eight Cardinal.

At the plate, the Canes were led by third baseman Daniel Cuvet who collected three hits and drove in two runs.

Miami (jumped out quickly in the first inning with two runs with Alex Sosa and Derek Williams each driving in a run.

Stanford cut the Canes’ lead to 2-1 in the third inning. Miami extended their lead in the fourth inning to 4-1 behind the bat of Brylan West and a Stanford balk. The Cardinal again rallied again in the sixth inning with a solo home run to close the gap to 4-2.

Cuvet sealed the game in the ninth by adding two insurance runs with a two-out, two RBI double to extend the lead to 6-2. Stanford found an unearned run off a fielding error in the bottom of the ninth but closer Ryan Bilka quickly slammed the door and secured the victory for Miami.

The teams will continue the series on Saturday. First pitch is set for 5:00 p.m. ET, with coverage on ACCNX and WVUM 90.5 FM.
