No. 23 Miami broke out the power bats late to defeat Indiana State, 6-2 on Wednesday night at Alex Rodrigues Stadium .
With the score tied, 2-2, in the seventh inning, Alonzo Alvarez blasted a solo home run to break the tie and then followed with a Derek Williams’ three-run homer to seal the game. Daniel Cuvet also knocked in a run for the Canes.
Williams is off the a hot start this season, batting a blistering .555 (10 for 18) in Miami’s first five games, with nine runs batted in.
On the mound, Miami’s Sebastian Santos-Olson turned in 4 2/3 innings, giving up two runs on five hits. It was Sebastian's collegiate debut.
Miami (5-0) begins a four-game weekend series against Lafayette on Friday night. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. ET, with coverage on ACCNX.
