CSC in jeopardy?

The College Sports Commission (CSC) was formed eight months to govern college rules enforcement, specifically Name, Image & Likeness approval process and the Transfer Portal.

Today, ESPN is reporting the new agency is faced with a number challenges, including long approval times on NIL deals and the failure of many schools to sign the CSC agreement document.

NIL deals have taken much longer for CSC approval due to third party payments to players on behalf of their client schools. These deals, called “associated deals”, are legal but help schools skirt past the $20.5 million salary cap they're allowed to pay players directly. We are now seeing $30 million football rosters. This influx (65% increase in the last two months) has slowed the CSC approval process and hurt the CSC power to enforce.

The CSC is also concerned by the number of schools that have not signed the CSC agreement contract. Such a failure could render schools ineligible for post season participation and substantial fines.

BOTTOM LINE:

If the CSC does not get all 68 Power Four schools to sign the agreement, the existence of the commission will be in jeopardy, just be another failed attempt by the NCAA to govern college athletics.
