Hetherman Named Broyles Award Finalist

Miami defensive coordinator Corey Hetherman was named a finalist for the Broyles Award on Tuesday. The award is presented annually to the nation’s top assistant coach.
Coach Hetherman has turned around Miami’s defense in his first year in Coral Gables. The Canes are ranked eleventh nationally and first in the ACC in total defense, allowing 277.8 yards per game and 14th nationally and first in the ACC in sacks per game at 2.83.
Under coach Hetherman, Miami’`s defense is also ranked sixth nationally and first in the ACC in opponents points allowed (13.8) per game. The Canes defense allowed only 4.4 yards per play (8th nationally) and 7th in opponents yards per rush (2.9). On third down conversions, the Canes are ranked 11th nationally (31.08% and held opponents to 6.1 yards per pass attempt (13th nationally).
