Just about every college sports fan in America agrees that college athletics is broken.

Recently, President Trump even convened a “round table’ at the White House with the leaders in college athletics to discuss the situation. Out of that meeting came his announcement that he would deliver a white paper outlining solutions to this mess.

That got me thinking. Yea, that could be scary but perhaps intriguing.

What if Trump recommends a new leadership structure with a strong single leader to pave the way for reform that builds public’s trust and support?

What if Trump announced ME as the new CEO of college sports? OK, you can stop laughing and get up off the floor. As doubtful as that seems, it could be interesting. I set out to cobble a high level plan.

In part two of this series, we continue to breakdown the new divisions, with the PACIFIC DIVISION.

STEP SEVEN: Form the PACIFIC DIVISION:

The PAC is back! My next move to begin giving the game back to the fans, coaches and players. It’s called "regionalization". The national footprint strategy FAILED! Coaches, players, staff and fans had to travel across the nation to compete and support their school. That resulted in eight straight years of declining game attendance, the heart of the sport. That’s over.

PACIFIC DIVISION:

Washington

Washington State

Oregon

Oregon State

Stanford

California

USC

UCLA

Arizona

Arizona State

This division will be managed by a senior vice president (SVP) reporting directly to ME. The SVP will represent the athletic directors (10) of the member schools and sit on the Executive Council.

BOTTOM LINE:

Change occurs only when the pain to stay the same exceeds the pain to change.

Fans, coaches, players and staff will once again celebrate the rich rivalries that made our sport(s) so great.

In part three of this series, we will breakdown another new division, the WEST DIVISION.

GO CANES!
