Miami to honor legendary coaches, Jim Larrañaga and Katie Meier

The University of Miami will honor legendary men’s basketball head coach on Jan. 20 and longtime women’s basketball coach Katie Meier on Thursday, Jan. 29, prior to the start of games against Florida State and Duke, respectively.

Coach Larranaga, the winningest coach in program history, led Miami’s program for 13+ season. totaling 274 wins and guided Miami to six NCAA Tournament appearances, including their first Final Four (2023), first Elite Eight (2022), first ACC Tournament title (2013), first two ACC regular season crowns (2013, 2023) and four Sweet 16 appearances.
Coach Meier led Miami’s women’s program for 19 seasons, registering 362 wins. She coached Miami to 13 postseason appearances, including 10 straight from 2009-2019, and the program’s first Elite Eight appearance in 2023.
Fans are encouraged to arrive early at the Watsco Center for a pre-game ceremonies that includes the unveiling of a banner recognizing theses legendary leaders’ accomplishments as the winningest coaches in Miami basketball history.
