As Miami prepares for summer official visits, we thought it would be a good time to examine the Canes’ roster, position by position.
Today, we’ll take a look at offensive guard.
Miami has five veteran guards on the 2025 roster, with Anez Cooper and Matthew McCoy exhausting eligibility after the 2025 season.
Here’s a breakdown of the Canes’ guard room.
Anez Cooper
HT: 6’-6” | WT: 350 | Sr.
Anez is a veteran and considered the captain of Miami’s line. He is projected to be All-Team ACC in 2025 with the potential to be a high NFL pick in the next draft.
Ryan Rodriguez
HT: 6’-2” | WT: 275 | R-Jr.
Ryan is a versatile veteran who can start at either guard or center. He is projected to compete for the starting left guard position this fall.
Matthew McCoy
HT: 6’-6” | WT: 290 | Sr.
Matthew is also a veteran and will compete with Rodriguez for the starting left guard position this fall.
Juan Minaya
HT: 6’-6” | WT: 330 | Soph.
Juan is a young but talented guard/tackle for Miami. He’s hoping to break out with a rotational role in 2025.
Deryc Plazz
HT: 6’-4” | WT: 275 | R-Freshman
Deryc is another talented but young guard/tackle for the Canes. It will be interesting to watch his physical development and adjustment to college ball in 2025.
BOTTOM LINE:
Miami has a good blend of proven veterans and high ceiling youth at the guard position position. The depth is a little thin but coach Mirabal cross-trains all offensive linemen at all positions.
GO CANES!
