Every season is a new season in college football since the emergence of NIL and the transfer portal.
This series will break down, by position, the talent and potential of each position group. Today, we examine Miami's tight end room.

Overview:
Miami needs to improve the production of its tight ends and keep them healthy in 2026. Miami prefers to carry between 5-6 tight ends on the roster.
Returning Lettermen:
Miami returns four tight ends, Jackson Carver, Luka Gilbert, Elija Lofton and Jack Nickel from the 2025 squad.
Incoming Transfers:
Miami did not sign any transfer tight ends this cycle, instead focusing on their recruiting efforts on the incoming high school class.
Incoming Freshmen:
Miami welcomed freshmen tight ends Gavin Mueller and Israel Briggs. Both freshmen have high ceilings and could get playing time in their freshman season.
Top Recruiting Targets:
The coaching staff is always looking to the future, stashing blue chip talent. Miami is looking to take 1-2 tight ends in their 2027 class. The Canes will be selective with their tight end recruiting in 2027. At this time, the staff has prioritized Jaxon Dollar, Jordan Karhoff, Anthony Cartwright and Malik Howard.
BOTTOM LINE:
Miami is looking to improve the production of their tight ends in 2026. The key will be Elijah Lofton's health. If the Canes feature another receiving threat at tight end, then Miami’s offense in 2026 can be very special.
GO CANES!
