Miami landed four-star 202s7 running back Ty Keys (Poplarville, MS - Poplarville) on Friday

Ty is Miami’s ninth verbal commitment to the 2027 recruiting class. Among his 29 scholarships, Ty chose the Canes over Florida State and Ole Miss.

At 6’-1”/190, Ty is rated 92, ranked the #14 running back and the #214 overall prospect in the 2017 recruiting class, according to the 247Sports Composite. Miami’s recruiting class now ranks #15 in the nation, up from #18 before Keys’ pledge.

As a junior in 2025, Ty rushed for 3,285 yards (10.9 YPC) and 45 touchdowns. He set a Mississippi high school record with 546 yards and eight touchdowns in one game.

Andre Ivins, 247Sports director of scouting, gave this evaluation of Keys in March.

“Tall, slashing runner that’s got a chance to be a featured option on Saturdays. Gashed defenses as a junior in a throwback attack with single-wing concepts, rushing for 3,285 yards and 45 touchdowns to the tune of 10.9 yards per carry. Can tax the perimeter, but has surprising success working between the tackles as he stacks cuts while getting vertical. Quick to identify trouble. Not afraid to drop the shoulder pads. Will build speed, but can lose steam.Limited production to date as a pass catcher, but turned heads at The Opening New Orleans regional where he streaked free down the sidelines on wheel routes. Projects as a potential impact player at the Power Four level that might need a year to add some bulk, but could still provide early minutes in a rotation.”

Ty Keys was named “Alpha Dog“ of The Opening New Orleans regional in March. In 2025, Keys was named Mississippi Class 4A Mr. Football. In 2024, Keys was named MVP of the Mississippi 4A state title game.

Welcome to the U, Ty Keys! Welcome to the family!

GO CANES!
