No. 10 Florida rallied with five runs in the eighth inning to defeat No. 17 Miami in the first game of a three-game weekend series on Friday night at Light Field.
The Gators got solid pitching to keep Miami’s bats in check most of the game game. The Canes threatened in the fifth with two hits to begin the inning, but the runners were stranded. Miami finally broke through in the sixth inning as Derek Williams and Brylan West each drove in a run for the Canes to tie the game.
Meanwhile, AJ Ciscar (2-1) gave up a tie-breaking home run to begin the pivotal eighth.
Miami (10-1) out-hit Florida but were just 3 for 13 with runners in scoring position and left seven on base.
The two teams go at it again on Saturday evening. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. ET with coverage on ACCNX.
GO CANES!
