Part Four...

For decades, the NCAA has struggled to keep the association viable and alive. It needs to be fixed.

I have a plan!

My plan may not be perfect, but it will begin to fix the problems facing the NCAA. I’m not professing to get rid of the NCAA. Just restructure and streamline it.

In part three of this series, we formed a true executive council reporting directly to the new chief executive officer. This council will now run the business, not the tribes. We also centralized all operations into a new national headquarters to facilitate changing the culture of the business. Yes, business!

Today, we continue our restructure by eliminating the existing ten conferences that make up Division I and replacing them with eight new product divisions.

This may hurt.

STEP FIVE: Select the best eighty schools (80) that will make up our new product line.

STEP SIX: Divest the remaining schools. Focus the business on these schools/products. This may require forming a new association. There are rumors already floating around about a new association.

STEP SEVEN: Organize the 80 schools into eight operating divisions (formerly conferences). Return to regionally - based divisions. Who goes where? This one is for our fans, our loyal customer base. Back to the future!

EAST: Boston College, UConn, Syracuse, Army, Rutgers, Maryland, Navy, Penn State, Pittsburgh, West Virginia

COASTAL: Notre Dame, Virginia, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Duke, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Florida State, Miami

SOUTHEAST: Tennessee, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Auburn, Ole Miss

Mississippi  State, LSU, Arkansas

SOUTH: Cincinnati, Louisville, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Memphis, Wake Forest, UCF, South Florida, Florida Atlantic, Tulane

CENTRAL: Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Indiana, Purdue, Illinois, Northwestern, Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota

SOUTHWEST: Houston, Baylor, SMU, TCU, Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Kansas, Kansas State

BOTTOM LINE:

We have streamlined our product lines. Mission Accomplished

In part FIVE of our series, we redesign our flagship, the College Football Playoffs.

Until then…

GO CANES!
