Our Miami Hurricanes powered past Florida ,26-7, on Saturday evening at a packed Hard Rock Stadium.
As is our custom, we award “Games Balls” to the Canes who made significant contributions to a victory. This week we present game balls in victory.
OFFENSIVE LINE:
This game ball goes again to the Canes’ offense line who overpowered the Florida’s defensive line, especially late when it counted. As a result, the Canes controlled time of possession by 36:30 to 23.30. Congratulations to Francis Mauigoa, Anez Cooper, James Brockermeyer, Matthew McCoy, Markel Bell, Samson Okunlola, Tommy Kinsler IV, Ryan Rodriguez, Nino Francavilla, Juan Minaya, Seuseu Alofaituli, Max Buchanan, Deryc Plazz, Jaden Wilkerson and Demetrius Campbell.
RBs MARK FLETCHER & CHARMAR “CHARLEY” BROWN
Florida had no answer for Miami’s power rushing attack behind the Canes’ massive offensive line. Miami rushed for 184 yards, averaging 4.0 yards per rush with a powerful two-prong attack led by Mark Fletcher’s 116 yards and 1 touchdown. It was Fletcher’s second straight week with over 100 yards. “Charley” Brown supplemented Fletcher with another 80 yards and two touchdowns.
The DEFENSE:
Going into the game, we knew the Canes had to control the impact of Gator’s running attack. They did so in spades. holding Florida to only 80 yards rushing (2.8 YPC). The game stat that stands out is the Gators’ total inability to covert on third down, going 0-13. The Canes have become emblematic of their leader, defensive coordinator Corey Hetherman. They are relentless, swarming to the ball. Congratulations to coach Hetherman and his entire defense.
BOTTOM LINE:
Miami won again because they won the battle in the defensive side of the ball and dictated the game with a power attack. Congratulations on a total team effort.
GO CANES!
