Just about every college sports fan in America agrees that college athletics is broken.
Recently, President Trump even convened a “round table" at the White House with the leaders in college athletics to discuss the situation. Out of that meeting came his announcement that he would deliver a white paper outlining solutions to this mess.
That got me thinking. Yea, that could be scary but perhaps intriguing.
What if Trump recommends a new leadership structure with a strong single leader to pave the way for reform that builds public’s trust and support?
What if Trump announced ME as the Commissioner?
OK, you can stop laughing and get up off the floor. As doubtful as that seems, it could be interesting. So, I set out to cobble a high-level strategic plan.
STEP EIGHT: Form the SOUTHWEST DIVISION
I continue our strategic reconstruction with another common sense move, the formation of the WEST DIVISION.
SOUTHWEST DIVISION:
Houston
Baylor
SMU
TCU
Texas
Texas Tech
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
Kansas
Kansas State
Like the West Division, the Southwest division will be managed by a senior vice president (SVP) reporting directly to ME, the CEO. The SVP will represent the athletic directors (10) of the member schools and sit on the Executive Council.
The Southwest Division will be made up of schools from multiple old conferences across the country. Again, fans, coaches, players and staff will once again celebrate the rich regional rivalries that made our sport(s) so great.
BOTTOM LINE:
Change occurs only when the pain to stay the same exceeds the pian to change.
In part five of our series, we will breakdown another new division, the CENTRAL DIVISION.
GO CANES!
