Making a difference!

In 2024, Miami fans experienced a roller coaster of highs and lows. Despite a good season, we went home disappointed. Mario Cristobal obviously wasn’t satisfied and went about fixing the Canes’ weaknesses.

Defensive Coordinator Corey Hetherman & staff

Cristobal went out and almost cleaned out the entire defensive staff, hiring a defensive coordinator Corey Hetherman from Minnesota. Miami’s new defensive staff (Hetherman, Taylor, Lewis, Harris, Etheridge) has already turned a program weakness into a strength on the team.

Transfer Portal…

Miami hit the transfer portal hard in the off-season, resulting 19 new faces of the roster in 2025. Ten of those new recruits have earned starting roles, including QB Carson Beck, WR CJ Daniels, OC James Brockermeyer, DT David Blay Jr., LB Mohamed Toure, DB Keionte Scott, CB Xavier Lucas, S Zechariah Poyser, S Jakobe Thomas and PK Carter Davis.

2025 Recruiting Class…

Cristobal and his elite recruiting department continued bringing in blue chip young talent in 2025. Miami’s 2025 recruiting class consisted of 21 recruits (13 four and five-stars), headlined by WR Malachi Toney (leads team in receptions). More young recruits are also seeing action and already contributing to the team’s success.

BOTTON LINE:

Talent acquisition in the off-season has been a huge success in 2025. Eleven of Miami’s new faces are starting and making a difference.
