The No.18 Miami Hurricanes (7-2, 3-2 ACC) defeated the Syracuse Orange (3-7,1-6, ACC), 38-10, on Saturday at Hard Rock Stadium.
Miami remembered last year’s loss to Syracuse BUT came out slow before scoring twice in the last few minutes of the first half to take a 14-0 lead to the locker room. However, in the second half the Canes turned on the jets to defeat the Orange 38-10.
On offense, Miami out gained Syracuse in total yards, 385 to 285. The Canes had 22 first downs to 20 for the Orange. Miami went 3-9 on third down conversations, compared to 6-14 for Syracuse. The Canes held a slight advantage in time of possession, 30:23 to 29:37.
Miami quarterback Carson Beck threw for 247 yards, going 18/24, and 1 touchdowns. Beck also scored on a 14-yard pass from freshman Malachi Toney. Freshman running back Girard Pringle Jr. led Miami’s rushing attach with 55 yards on 7 carries and 1 touchdown. Wide receiver Keelan Marion led Miami’s receivers with 3 catches for 116 yards and 1 touchdown.
On defense, Miami limited Syracuse’s running game to only 161 yards (3.7 yards per carry) and gave up 124 yards in the air. Miami linebacker Raul “PoPo” Aguirre a led Miami with 6 tackles (5 solo). Defensive back Keionte Scott continued to be a defensive play maker with a "pick six" interception just before the end of the first half to spank the Canes. Safety Jakobe Thomas added interception.
Miami (7-2, 3-2 ACC) returns next Saturday when they host North Carolina State (5-4, 2-3 ACC) at Hard Rock Stadium. Kick off is set for 3:30 p.m. ET, with coverage TBA.
