Miami scored on every drive in the first half and went onto a dominating 34 - 17 victory over Virginia Tech in Blacksburg.

The game wasn’t this close. Despite the worst officiated ACC game this season, the Canes won this game handily. Miami is keeping the pressure on the CFP selection committee.

The Canes dominated in almost all the major game metrics (total yards, yards passing, yards receiving. turnovers and time of possession.) The Hokies led in yards rushing, although QB Kyrone Drones was limited to only 51 yards on the ground, a key factor going into the game.

Most of Tech’s scoring opportunities came with the help of an incompetent ACC officiating crew.

Miami’s offense totaled 418 yards to 395 yards for the Hokies. Quarterback Carson Beck threw for 320 yards, completing 27 of 32 passes (84.4.%) for 4 touchdowns and no interceptions. Wide Receiver Malachi Toney led Miami receivers with 146 yards on 12 receptions (12.2 YPC). Toney also ran for 16 yards and completed a pass for 15 more yards.

Miami’s defense kept Hokie quarterback Kyron Drones in check, limiting him to 126 yards passing and only 31 yards rushing. Miami defense was led by safety Zachariah Poyser with 10 tackles and by defensive tackle Ahmad Moten with 2 sacks.

Miami will conclude the regular season next Saturday in Pittsburgh where they will take on the Pitt Pathers in a showdown game.

BOTTOM LINE:

Miami is still alive for both the ACC Championship and a college football playoff berth.

GO CANES!
