Miami falls to #9 BYU, 72-62

The #9 BYU Cougars rallied from a halftime deficit to beat Miami (5-2), 72-62, in the first game of the ESPN Events Invitational in Kissimmee on Thursday. It marked the second loss this season to a Top 10 team.


The turning point came on an 18-5 run by the Cougars in the second half.. The Canes couldn’t recover, as they shot a poor 33.3% (11-33) from the field in the second half.


For the game, Miami shot 37.9 % from the floor, 22.7% from beyond the arc and 41.2% from the free-throw line. The Canes are now 322nd in the nation at the charity stripe.


Miami was led by senior forward Malik Reneau with 14 points and nine rebounds. Freshman Shelton Henderson chipped in 13 points and point guard Tre Donaldson contributed 12 points.


The Canes will now take on Georgetown in the second round of the tournament on Friday. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. ET with coverage on ESPN.
