The No. 14 Miami Hurricanes (9-2, 5-2 ACC) soundly defeated the Virginia Tech Hokies, 34-17, on the road in Blacksburg, Virginia on Saturday.

As is our custom, CaneReports proudly awards game balls to our Canes who made significant contributions to victory.

Wide Receiver Malachi Toney…

“Mr. Everything” tops our list with 12 pass receptions for 146 yards and a touchdown. He also ran the ball for another 16 yards on 3 carries, passed the ball for another 15 yards AND returned a punt for seven more yards. All in all, Malachi accounted for 184 yards of offense.

Quarterback Carson Beck…

In possibly his best effort of the season, Carson guided the Canes’ offense to six scores in eight possessions. He threw for 330 yards, 4 touchdowns, going 27-32 (84.4%). At one point in the game, Carson completed 13 straight passes and controlled the game with his decision and accuracy.

Safety Zechariah Poyser…

Sophomore Zechariah Poyser had his best game of the season, making a team high 10 tackles (4 solo) with one sack and a fumble recovery. He was everywhere on the field disrupting the Hokies’ offense.

Punter Dylan Joyce…

Miami punter Dylan Joyce turned in a clutch performance, making a late critical 53 yard punt to back up the Hokies and allow Miami’s defense to control the game from that point. Dylan averaged 44.5 yards per punt.

Miami’s defense…

DC Corey Hethermen’s defense achieved it objective to control the impact of Hokies’ quarterback Kyron Drones, holding him to 124 yards passing AND only 31 yards on the ground and no touchdowns. Miami’s defense kept pounding Drones and ultimately drove him out of the game. The defense played fast and physical, with 9 tackles for loss and 5 sacks. They controlled the game’s outcome down the stretch.

Congratulations to all our Canes. You took care of business today and kept the pressure on the CFP selection committee.

GO CANES!
