No. 16 Miami Hurricanes (8-2, 4-2 ACC) soundly defeated the North Carolina State Wolfpack, 41-7, on Saturday afternoon at Hard Rock Stadium.
Miami made short work of North Carolina State (5-5, 2-4 ACC) on Saturday afternoon. In just about every phase of the game, the Canes held a commanding advantage. The Canes allayed any concerns about a slow start, racing to a 24-0 by halftime and stretched the lead to 41-0 before substituting liberally in the fourth quarter.
On offense, Miami out gained NC State in total yards, 581 to 143. The Canes had 28 first downs to 9 for the Wolfpack. went 5-10 on third down conversations, compared to 3-11 for NC State. The Canes held a huge advantage in time of possession, 36:43 to 23:17.
Miami quarterback Carson Beck threw for 291 yards, going 21/27, and 3 touchdowns and no interceptions. Carson averaged 10.8 yds per pass. Freshman running back Girard Pringle Jr. led Miami’s rushing attack with 116 yards on 17 carries (6.8 YPC). Miami rolled up 214 yards rushing for the game.
Wide receiver Keelan Marion led Miami’s receivers with 7 catches for 96 (13.7 YPC). Freshman WR Malachi Toney added 5 catches for 54 yards and two touchdowns. Freshman WR Joshua Moore contributed 56 yards on 2 receptions. TE Elija Lofton added a 29-yard touchdown catch.
On defense, Miami limited NC State’s passing game to only 120 yards (4.0 yards per reception) and gave up just 23 yards on the ground. Miami linebacker Raul “PoPo” Aguirre and DE Akheem Mesidor a led Miami’s defense with 5 tackles each. Safety Jakobe Thomas added two interceptions, including a 55-yard “Pick6” interception.
Miami honored 23 seniors at their last home game. The Canes travel next Saturday to Blacksburg, VA to take on Virginia Tech (3-7, 2-4 ACC) at Lane Stadium. Kick off and TV coverage is still TBA.
