It happens every season, every week. Upsets! College football is five weeks into the season and this weekend again we saw an unusually high number of upsets and close calls. It will have a significant impact on the polls in the next 24 hours.
Upsets:
There were six upsets within the AP Top 25 schools. Let’s review.
Virginia 46 - #8 Florida State 38
Arizona State 27 - #24 TCU 24
Close Calls:
There were 5 games where a Top 25 team won by one touchdown or less this week.
#9 Texas A&M 16 - Auburn 10
#11 Indiana 20 - Iowa 15
#15 Tennessee 41 - Mississippi State 34
#16 Georgia Tech 30 - Wake Forest 29
#25 BYU 24 - Colorado 21
BOTTOM LINE:
Twenty (20) Top 25 teams played this week. Nine won easily. Six lost. Five won very close games over non-ranked teams.
The continued upsets in college football may indicate a higher level of parity in the game. Or it may call into question the validity of the polls. Let’s continue to watch and see if this trend continues.
GO CANES!
