Miami landed their first verbal commitment to the 2026 recruiting class on Thursday when 5-Star power forward Caleb Gaskins (Miami, FL - Columbus) made his pledge to head coach Jai Lucas.
At 6’-8”/210, Caleb is rated 99, ranked the #4 power forward and #16 overall prospect in the 2026 class, according to the 247Sports Composite.

Adam Finkelstein, 247 Sports Director of Scouting, wrote the following evaluation of Caleb in July.
“Gaskins is a long, strong, and physical four-man who defends, rebounds, and is continuing to develop his offensive game. His most reliable individual offense is in the mid-range area right now, where he has a high release to score over contesting defenders with pull-ups and in the mid-post. He’s gradually becoming more comfortable extending his range to three, but still needs to get more consistent (28% 3pt & 75% FT in EYBL play). He can put the ball on the floor comfortably with either hand, but isn’t a natural creator or offensive alpha at this point. He also has the potential to be a much better decision-maker than the numbers may indicate. He averaged 1.7 assists against 3 turnovers, but there were still flashes of passing potential and quick processing as a decision-maker when he wasn’t trying to force his individual offense.”
“Defensively, he’s engaged and already versatile. While not necessarily a dynamic athlete or super twitchy mover, he does have good feet when pulled to the perimeter. He keeps people in front of him and does a pretty good job getting around screens for a player his size. He’s even more natural guarding bigger players in the post, where he can be physical and hold his ground without fouling. Away from the ball, he can scramble, cover the court well in long-rotations, and then finish possessions by rebounding in traffic (7.8 per game).”
“Physically, he’s had a naturally stronger build since he was younger and yet still has plenty of room to add muscle mass once he gets into a college weight room. He’s also continued to grow and most recently measured at nearly 6-foot-9 with shoes with a 7-foot-1 wingspan. Finally, he’s young for his grade, and won’t turn 18 until August after his high school graduation, so there is a significant runway for continued development.”
Welcome to the U, Caleb! Welcome to the family!
GO CANES!
