Miami fought through adversity to defeat Bethune-Cookman, 5-2, on Wednesday night at Alex Rodriguez Stadium.

After losing two games to Florida over the weekend, Miami had to put it behind them and get back on track. They did so but not without first dealing with the emotions associated with losing to an arch rival.

Miami struggled to score runs early in the game, going 1 for 10 with runners in scoring position, leaving 11 on base.

However, in a decisive seventh inning, the Canes finally broke out. The Miami rally started when Daniel Cuvet smacked a one-out double and advanced to third on a wild pitch. After Dylan Dubovik walked, Dereck Williams blasted a tie-breaking two-run double to right for a 4-2 lead. Brylan West followed with a sacrifice fly, scoring Williams. Fabio Peralta earlier drove in a run with scarce fly in the second inning.

Miami’s pitching kept the Canes in the game until the seventh inning breakout. Miami sent eight pitchers to the mound, holding BCU to only two runs, on six hits, four walks, sticking out eleven batters.

Miami (11-2) begins ACC play on Friday, hosting a three-game series against Boston College (7-5, 0-0 ACC). First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. ET, with coverage on ACCNX.

GO CANES!
