No. 24 Miami couldn’t hold the lead in the 9th inning and went on to lose, 8-7, to Boston College on Friday night.

Miami led 5-0 after two innings but Cane’s pitching couldn’t hold down the Eagles. Miami starter AJ Ciscar went eight innings, allowing 5 runs on six hits, but left with a 7-5 lead going into the ninth inning. Reliever Ryan Bilka couldn’t hold the led in the ninth, giving up two runs to send the game into extra innings.

BC went on to score two runs in the top of the 11th inning. Miami attempted to rally in the bottom of the inning but stranded the tier run on third to end the game.

Miami (11-3, 0-1 ACC) pounded out 16 hits, but was 4 for 21 with runners in scoring position and left 14 on base. The Canes were led at the plate by Dylan Dubovik, Daniel Cuvet and Vance Sheahan. Dubovik homered and drove in four runs, with Cuvet and Sheahan each driving in a run.

The weekend three-game series continues on Saturday. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. ET, with coverage on ACCNX. Miami will send left-hander Rob Evans (2-1, 6.75 ERA) to the mound.

GO CANES!
