Miami’s spring practice has begun.
As we prepare for the 2026 season, head coach Mario Cristobal and his staff are beginning to mold the 2026 team, reestablishing the culture and evaluating the talent of this roster. After 15 spring practices, we will have a better idea of our team going into forward into summer workouts and fall camp.
In this series, CaneReports will breakdown each position group and identify potential battles on the depth chart. At this time, we will introduce players in each group alphabetically. Let them compete for a place on the depth chart.
Today, we examine the OFFENSIVE TACKLE positions.
(Listed Alphabetical)
Returning: (4) Demetrius Campbell, Matthew McCoy, Juan Minaya, Jaden Wilkerson
Transfers: (1) Jamal Meriweather
True Freshmen: (3) Jackson Cantwell,, Ben Congdon, Canon Pickett
NOTE: Players may slide outside to tackle if needed
Position Battle(s):
Miami enters spring practice with ONE established offensive tackle, Matthew McCoy. The Canes will also have promising returnees in Demetrius Campbell, Juan Minaya, and Jaden Wilkerson. The Canes also welcome transfer OL Jamal Meriweather from Georgia.
However, the big new headliner is freshman Jackson Cantwell. Can Cantwell immediately step into a starting role at Left Tackle?
Miami is also high on freshmen Ben Congdon and versatile Canon Pickett.
BOTTOM LINE:
Miami goes into spring practice with less experience and depth at offensive. The youth is very promising but need college game experience. The position battles will be fierce and interesting to watch. Can the talented but inexperienced young tackles quickly fill the breach and continue Miami dominance in the trenches?
Who will step up and spring forward?
GO CANES!
